The Firestone Tire Incident

By Amber Woods on Tuesday, July 12, 2011

Lets call this the Firestone tire incident. Do you remember in 2000 when Firestone recalled 6.5 million  tires? I remember it clearly as I was a victim of quite a few of these explosive tires. News flash! When a company recalls a product you buy and use, such as tires, check your vehicle and see …

La La La LAX to Las Vegas

By Amber Woods on Friday, July 1, 2011

I’m not a fan of LAX. Last time I flew it was out of quiet, quaint Long Beach Airport. Okay maybe quaint isn’t quite the right word. Is anything really quaint in lovely ghetto and smog infested Long Beach, California? California’s Long Beach Airport was so quiet and small when I flew out to Colorado …

Father Know’s Best?

By Amber Woods on Monday, June 27, 2011

So here is today’s rant from  AmberZombie.      My father is concerned about my Face Book page.      He is concerned because according to Face Book I’m interested in men.      He thinks this makes me look cheap. My Face Book page has always said this, its nothing new that I updated in the …

It’s raining Ketchup!

By Amber Woods on Thursday, June 23, 2011

I’ll always remember the great ketchup debacle of 2011. I knew there was a reason I despise catchup. It doesn’t really make sense, I mean I love vinegar, I love tomatoes, why can’t I love ketchup?  I never had a real good reason to give on why, no, I would not be needing ketchup for my …

Mt Sugarloaf

By Amber Woods on Wednesday, June 22, 2011

At the moment I have a very happy, purring cat shoving his head into my armpit. Thank god (For Zion) I just took a shower. Until just recently (Like a few minutes ago) I had a sports bra full of squished bugs, mud covered hiking boots and streaks of mud all over my legs. …

Hike. Jeep. Repeat. Big Bear's only outdoor adventure guide
Amber Woods
Amber Woods

Hi y’all! I’m Amber, Big Bear Lake’s local Hungry Mountaineer hiking nature guide. I grew up here in the San Bernardino National Forest. I have basically been out exploring hiking trails and enjoying the wilderness as long as I could walk. I have had some amazing adventures out here in the gorgeous San Bernardino Mountains over the years. As a alpine adventure enabler who is passionate about the wilderness, I love to share my knowledge of our vast trail system with vacationers who also love the great outdoors. Looking to book a hiking excursion? Email me at Hungrymountaineer@gmail.com for the best locals-only hikes available in this mountain wilderness. I am passionate about finding my balance in life – healthy living, great food, outdoor fitness, traveling adventures, working hard and my unbridled love for racehorses and naturally, gambling. When I’m not exploring news trails or betting on the ponies you can find me either coming up with healthy new recipes or blogging about the adventures my trail pup and I had in the wilderness this week. I have spent most of my life exploring what these mountains have to offer and locals would call me an expert and a backcountry Snack Sherpa. I know the best hiking and biking trails in these mountains and I have chronicled most of my hikes and adventures on this website. Please get in touch is you have any questions.
