Life of Adventure

Bacon, Bacon, Bacon, Beach, Bacon

By Amber Woods on Thursday, November 1, 2012

I had an ice tea at six in the evening.   Actually I had two iced teas.    I got carried away by the fact that the other day was just about the perfect day off, ever.   It was 110 degrees in the valley (This heat wave was NOT part of my perfect day) so hot down the hill, that …

Floppy Bulls, Steer Pizzle and Brownie Sundaes (And a recipe for one of those!)

By Amber Woods on Thursday, November 1, 2012

Never introduce yourself on a first date by saying “Hi. I’m sorry I smell like cat food” Even if you really do smell like cat food and you have a really good reason for it. (Like you stopped to feed your neighbors cat on the way to meet some hot guy for coffee and for …

The Best Day of Zion’s Life

By Amber Woods on Wednesday, October 31, 2012

I’m pretty sure this is the best day of Zion’s life.      He is an indoor cat who very rarely gets out door privileges.   Today I let him go out to eat some grass for a little bit and some how he caught a lizard.   He has never caught anything bigger then a fly …

One could say I’m not the most patient person

By Amber Woods on Monday, October 29, 2012

What possible reason could one have for putting on ones hazards, slamming on ones brakes and coming to a dead stop in the middle of a state highway?   Squirrel confused ( As squirrels usually are) in the middle of the highway?    No.   Baby ducklings crossing the state highway, in a nice neat line one …

Bluff Lake… Again

By Amber Woods on Friday, October 26, 2012

I think I just had my first tick episode.    I was driving in the mountains and I made a move to brush something off my leg  and found that the something was embedded in my skin, wretched it out, painfully, and am now seriously wondering if that was a tick. I have no idea …

Hike. Jeep. Repeat. Big Bear's only outdoor adventure guide
Amber Woods
Amber Woods

Hi y’all! I’m Amber, Big Bear Lake’s local Hungry Mountaineer hiking nature guide. I grew up here in the San Bernardino National Forest. I have basically been out exploring hiking trails and enjoying the wilderness as long as I could walk. I have had some amazing adventures out here in the gorgeous San Bernardino Mountains over the years. As a alpine adventure enabler who is passionate about the wilderness, I love to share my knowledge of our vast trail system with vacationers who also love the great outdoors. Looking to book a hiking excursion? Email me at Hungrymountaineer@gmail.com for the best locals-only hikes available in this mountain wilderness. I am passionate about finding my balance in life – healthy living, great food, outdoor fitness, traveling adventures, working hard and my unbridled love for racehorses and naturally, gambling. When I’m not exploring news trails or betting on the ponies you can find me either coming up with healthy new recipes or blogging about the adventures my trail pup and I had in the wilderness this week. I have spent most of my life exploring what these mountains have to offer and locals would call me an expert and a backcountry Snack Sherpa. I know the best hiking and biking trails in these mountains and I have chronicled most of my hikes and adventures on this website. Please get in touch is you have any questions.
