By Amber Woods on Tuesday, June 6, 2017

I’m starting to get to the point where if I have an accident while enjoying nature it’s not a big deal if I can’t see a bone sticking out of my leg. You know when you have your days when you say to yourself, if I survive this hike hell yes I’m eating carbs when …

I could give you twenty reasons why you should adopt don’t shop. Fifteen of those reasons revolve around this ding dong who was adopted from the Big Bear Animal Shelter on her last day. Yesterday this mutt jumped on my friends couch and tried to harass her cat with kisses. Than she jumped up and …

Spicy Sriracha Tuna Salad

By Amber Woods on Tuesday, May 30, 2017

“Sandwich!!! Sandwich!!!” I’m chasing my dog down a mountain trail and it sounds like I’m confused if she is actually a dog or a Sriracha Tuna Sandwich. I’m yelling these words frantically at her as I race down the mountain after this little hooligan and run as fast as my tired hikers legs will carry …

Alaska, Day Two; Exploring a Glacier and a Sudden Hail Storm in Talkeetna

By Amber Woods on Friday, May 26, 2017

Alaska was the vacation of a life time. The memories made on this two week vacation will be some I will never, ever forget. About Me
Amber Wood
Amber Wood

Hi y’all! I’m Amber, Big Bear’s local Hungry Mountaineer hiking nature guide. I grew up here in the San Bernardino National Forest and I have basically been out exploring hiking trails and enjoying the wilderness as long as I could walk. I have had some amazing adventures out here in the gorgeous San Bernardino Mountains over the years. As a hiking guide who is passionate about the wilderness, I love to share my knowledge of our vast trail system with vacationers who also love the great outdoors. Looking to book a hiking excursion? Email me at Hungrymountaineer@gmail.com for the best locals-only hikes available in this mountain wilderness. I am passionate about finding my balance in life – healthy living, great food, outdoor fitness, traveling adventures, working hard and my unbridled love for racehorses and naturally, gambling. When I’m not exploring news trails or betting on the ponies you can find me either coming up with healthy new recipes or blogging about the adventures my trail pup and I had in the wilderness this week. I have spent most of my life exploring what these mountains have to offer and locals would call me an expert. I know the best hiking and biking trails in these mountains and I have chronicled most of my hikes and adventures in my blog on this website. Please get in touch is you have any questions.
