Living Environmentally Conscientious in an RV

By Amber Woods on Wednesday, September 20, 2017

Lets face it, as Americans ninety percent of us take road trips each year and the hot and sunny summer months are the best times to escape on these family vacations and hit the open road. Being environmentally conscientious on an RV trip may sound like a big joke but it’s possible if you love …

Meyer Lemon Zucchini Bread

By Amber Woods on Monday, September 18, 2017

Today I realized I am no longer a beginner mountain biker. I may ride my brand new Cannondale mountain bike exceptionally slow on all the dirt fire roads I can find because let me tell you, I learned the hard way, you know what is really not fun? Flying over the handle bars! Nope! But …

Butternut Squash Seafood Stew with Coconut and Ginger

By Amber Woods on Friday, September 15, 2017

Today is a winter soups day.     It is snowy, blustery and cold outside.     In my snug mountain cabin it is almost seventy degrees with the oven on for hours and a fire blazing away since seven a.m.     This week has been so crazy insane busy that today I have nothing planned …

A day in the OC. Tips on Recycled Fashion & Delicious Foods. And Fish Poo Stew

By Amber Woods on Thursday, September 14, 2017

This morning was supposed to be a relaxing a.m. full of deserted sandy beaches and California’s cloud studded blue skies. I was supposed to sit on the beach in my decrepit Tommy Bahamas beach chair and read my book as dolphins frolicked in the Pacific Ocean. I was going to eat one of my favorite …

Pineapple, Pomegranate, Greek Yogurt and Mint Coleslaw

By Amber Woods on Monday, September 11, 2017

Nothing says hot summer days like BBQ and coleslaw. Or maybe 108 degree heat and humidity and thunderstorms. 108 heat is exactly why I chose not to drive down into the smoggy, humid hot and muggy valley today even though I’m dying to drive 100 miles to the west to Artesia, our local authentic all …

About Me
Amber Wood
Amber Wood

Hi y’all! I’m Amber, Big Bear’s local Hungry Mountaineer hiking nature guide. I grew up here in the San Bernardino National Forest and I have basically been out exploring hiking trails and enjoying the wilderness as long as I could walk. I have had some amazing adventures out here in the gorgeous San Bernardino Mountains over the years. As a hiking guide who is passionate about the wilderness, I love to share my knowledge of our vast trail system with vacationers who also love the great outdoors. Looking to book a hiking excursion? Email me at Hungrymountaineer@gmail.com for the best locals-only hikes available in this mountain wilderness. I am passionate about finding my balance in life – healthy living, great food, outdoor fitness, traveling adventures, working hard and my unbridled love for racehorses and naturally, gambling. When I’m not exploring news trails or betting on the ponies you can find me either coming up with healthy new recipes or blogging about the adventures my trail pup and I had in the wilderness this week. I have spent most of my life exploring what these mountains have to offer and locals would call me an expert. I know the best hiking and biking trails in these mountains and I have chronicled most of my hikes and adventures in my blog on this website. Please get in touch is you have any questions.
