Dead Golden Retriever; a Wine Tasting Adventure in Southern California

By Amber Woods on Thursday, January 23, 2014

There is nothing funny about dead golden retrievers.     It’s just kind of weird, that’s all, how they were sprinkled all over the Wilson Creek Winery in Temecula.     Okay to be fair, I had been wine tasting since noon and I had been power wine tasting as my boyfriend was DD and was therefore pouring …

Lamb Burgers with Spicy Feta Mayo

By Amber Woods on Monday, January 20, 2014

I’m having a love affair with Daphne’s Greek Cafe right now.        The closest Daphne’s to me is actually forty five minutes away and I have been finding excuses to drive forty five minutes to Ontario for the past two weeks.        Daphne’s has the best homemade pitas …

Utah: Mormons, Buffalos and Breweries

By Amber Woods on Monday, January 13, 2014

Where can you find Mormons, Buffalo and Breweries?      Utah, of course!      Six years ago I traveled to the great, mostly empty state of Utah a few different times to visit our friends Sue and Adam who had recently moved out there from Southern California. The first time I went to Utah to …

Hike. Jeep. Repeat. Big Bear's only outdoor adventure guide
Amber Woods
Amber Woods

Hi y’all! I’m Amber, Big Bear Lake’s local Hungry Mountaineer hiking nature guide. I grew up here in the San Bernardino National Forest. I have basically been out exploring hiking trails and enjoying the wilderness as long as I could walk. I have had some amazing adventures out here in the gorgeous San Bernardino Mountains over the years. As a alpine adventure enabler who is passionate about the wilderness, I love to share my knowledge of our vast trail system with vacationers who also love the great outdoors. Looking to book a hiking excursion? Email me at Hungrymountaineer@gmail.com for the best locals-only hikes available in this mountain wilderness. I am passionate about finding my balance in life – healthy living, great food, outdoor fitness, traveling adventures, working hard and my unbridled love for racehorses and naturally, gambling. When I’m not exploring news trails or betting on the ponies you can find me either coming up with healthy new recipes or blogging about the adventures my trail pup and I had in the wilderness this week. I have spent most of my life exploring what these mountains have to offer and locals would call me an expert and a backcountry Snack Sherpa. I know the best hiking and biking trails in these mountains and I have chronicled most of my hikes and adventures on this website. Please get in touch is you have any questions.
