Snakes!

By Amber Wood on Saturday, June 2, 2012

Life’s little problems seem real small when you almost step on a rattle snake in the middle of an empty forest. All I can hear around me are the birds chirping in the trees, the lizards scurrying through brush, and all I see is my life flashing before my eyes as my foot hangs …

Kids These Days

By Amber Wood on Wednesday, May 30, 2012

When I complain about the youth of America,  which I do quiet a lot because lets face facts, I love to complain, what I mean is any one younger then thirty. What I mean is anyone younger then me. I’m talking about anyone who is old enough to know better.   I’m talking about “kids” who are old …

Grrrrr…Gggggonna Run out a Here!

By Amber Wood on Monday, May 28, 2012

Today’s morning run is brought to you by the letter g as in grrr.     G as in I would gggggreatly appreciate not shitting myself twice in one week. This morning was briefly slightly terrifying.     I went for a quick run at Keller’s at dawn. Today’s adventure consisted of having to run for the first time ever …

It’s time to Put Dad in the home!

By Amber Wood on Friday, May 25, 2012

When I picked up my mobile, the first thing my Dad said to me was   “Your Mother thinks I’m getting weird”   Oh no, this conversation can’t be going any where good.    Last week I blogged about how my Dad likes to find “treasures” on the side of the freeway while he is at work …

Times they are a Changing

By Amber Wood on Friday, May 25, 2012

Today a red tailed hawk flew by my face. Okay actually it was about ten feet away from my face, but still, it was really fucking close, and really fucking glorious. I was running in the forest, far, far away from civilization and out of no where this huge red hawk flies low, cutting …

About Me
Amber Woodyard
Amber Woodyard

Hi y’all! I’m Amber, Big Bear’s local Hungry Mountaineer hiking nature guide. I grew up here in the San Bernardino National Forest and I have basically been out exploring hiking trails and enjoying the wilderness as long as I could walk. I have had some amazing adventures out here in the gorgeous San Bernardino Mountains over the years. As a hiking guide who is passionate about the wilderness, I love to share my knowledge of our vast trail system with vacationers who also love the great outdoors. Looking to book a hiking excursion? Email me at [email protected] for the best locals-only hikes available in this mountain wilderness. I am passionate about finding my balance in life – healthy living, great food, outdoor fitness, traveling adventures, working hard and my unbridled love for racehorses and naturally, gambling. When I’m not exploring news trails or betting on the ponies you can find me either coming up with healthy new recipes or blogging about the adventures my trail pup and I had in the wilderness this week. I have spent most of my life exploring what these mountains have to offer and locals would call me an expert. I know the best hiking and biking trails in these mountains and I have chronicled most of my hikes and adventures in my blog on this website. Please get in touch is you have any questions.
