Life of Adventure

When it rains, it pours

By Amber Woods on Saturday, April 21, 2012

I thought I was accomplishing things today. And then my garbage disposal fell out of the sink. Great, that means time to get on the phone with one of the most popular Plumbers in Highlands Ranch. Johnny was over helping me assemble the book shelf that I had just bought, plus I had just taken …

A Sweaty Mess

By Amber Woods on Wednesday, April 18, 2012

If I’m porch sittin’ that means it must be spring time!    Just to clarify, porch sittin’ means it’s seven A.M. and I am sitting on my porch swing in the mountain sunshine, drinking a latte, wearing my bathrobe (hood up, uni bomber style) and talking to my cats.    Oh yeah, I’m that scary neighbor …

A Day at the Zoo; Porcopine Man Smell, Foxy Foxes and holding Animals that are Terrified of me

By Amber Woods on Tuesday, April 17, 2012

The redtail hawk writes songs across the sky,There’s music in the waters flowing by,And you can hear a song each time the wind sighs,In the golden rolling hills of California. Words from one of my favorite Kate Wolf song . I always wonder when I’m hiking how Cooper Hawks look different from Red Tailed Hawks. …

I’ve Still Got it!

By Amber Woods on Monday, April 16, 2012

Yup, I’ve still got it.    I may be thirty one. I may have horrible gas most days. I may not have washed my hair in a few days, but to the homeless population of Redlands, this mountain girl?    Still a prize.    Yesterday was a beautiful day in the usual smoggy valley below. I usually …

Yes, that Goat Smell at the Post Office was me.

By Amber Woods on Wednesday, April 11, 2012

Good thing I get so pissed off so easily or I would never have anything to write about.      Like just now, I fell, farted, then lost my American Express card some where in between.    Its a gorgeous, well to me, at least, foggy morning in my little mountain town.     Its raining.    Its snowing.    I’m …

About Me
Amber Wood
Amber Wood

Hi y’all! I’m Amber, Big Bear’s local Hungry Mountaineer hiking nature guide. I grew up here in the San Bernardino National Forest and I have basically been out exploring hiking trails and enjoying the wilderness as long as I could walk. I have had some amazing adventures out here in the gorgeous San Bernardino Mountains over the years. As a hiking guide who is passionate about the wilderness, I love to share my knowledge of our vast trail system with vacationers who also love the great outdoors. Looking to book a hiking excursion? Email me at Hungrymountaineer@gmail.com for the best locals-only hikes available in this mountain wilderness. I am passionate about finding my balance in life – healthy living, great food, outdoor fitness, traveling adventures, working hard and my unbridled love for racehorses and naturally, gambling. When I’m not exploring news trails or betting on the ponies you can find me either coming up with healthy new recipes or blogging about the adventures my trail pup and I had in the wilderness this week. I have spent most of my life exploring what these mountains have to offer and locals would call me an expert. I know the best hiking and biking trails in these mountains and I have chronicled most of my hikes and adventures in my blog on this website. Please get in touch is you have any questions.
