It was Safe; Until Yesterday

The parade of law enforcement vehicles driving up our mountain highways this morning is endless.
Every time I look out my  windows at the highway, well, I see the snow falling down, but it also seems like every time I look out the window I see more CHP or Sheriffs or green and white law enforcement SUV’s heading towards Big Bear.
The snow has been falling hard since some time in the middle of the night. I heard the chunks of snow smacking into my window all night long and every time I thought it was the cop killer with a gun.
It was a very restless night with little sleep.
This is day two of Chris Dorner shoots all the cops in California and than hides out in my forest.
   Yes, I said my forest.
My half marathon is in less than a month and I need to train every day I can. I train among the Jeffrey Pines and the Juniper Trees and the Manzanita bushes that line these mountain trails. I run five to thirteen miles every day and right now I am wondering how many days will I have to stay inside until the cop killer who is hiding out in my forest with guns is found.
It’s my day off and it is a snowy one, so I probably wouldn’t go for a run today anyways but we finally have enough snow that I could go snow shoeing to Bluff lake or Craft’s Peak on my day off.
Oh, except my favorite hiking/ running/ snow shoeing area Bluff Lake is abut two miles from where Chris Dorner left his burnt out SUV (And don’t even get my started on how that douche bag could have started a forest fire!)
When I see the prospect of having to stay trapped indoors for days because there is a crazed madman running around my forest killing people I feel a little pent up and angry.
I do love the snow and snow days, but I like having the option to go for a run in the forest and feel safe every day. Police in the Big Bear Valley are telling people to stay inside and lock the doors, not opening them for anyone that does not have a badge.
I live in the mountains because it is safe and relatively crime free.
   Until yesterday that is.
