Adventures along the Sierras

Every great first day of vacation should start with fishing at an alpine stream

Every great second day of vacation has to begin with branding either your gear or a body part with a forever reminder of that one hiking/ camping/ fishing you took back in the day.
For me the first day of epic fishing took place on the quiet streams right below Lake Sabrina and the tiny alpine resort of Aspendale, California.

We tried to do a little hike to one of the nearby lakes but the snow at this altitude ( over 9,000 feet) just turned into a big pain.  So we hiked a bit, fished a bit than checked out nearby South Lake which was really pretty and had snow packed peaks in the distance.
This was for sure a hike we would have to come back and do another day.
Instead we traveled up the 395 a bit more and set up camp at our spot at Lake Silverwood.
We quickly found it was still winter at over 7,000 feet and it got cold really fast as the sun started to set and we hurried to clean up dinner.
Getting up early in the morning and preparing for our hike I decided to keep my coffee warm on the grate above my campfire.
The handle warmed up pretty quick so I used my sleeve of my jacket to hold the handle and in just a instant burned all the way through my jacket!
My jacket has now been branded by Lake Silverwood for life!
