A Review of Muller’s Yogurt and a recipe for Greek Yogurt Parfait with Raw Honey, Wild Berries and Ginger Granola

Anyone who has been to Europe knows what good yogurt tastes like.
It tastes like creamy tangy heaven in your mouth. Besides building fast and sleek cars, those Germans know how to make some tasty yogurt.
I first went to Europe when I was twenty two. As soon as I landed in London on a cold February morning I was hungry. My best friend lived a few hours outside of London, near Cambridge and before we got in the car to leave the city, we stopped at a Mark and Spencer’s and she insisted I try Muller’s Yogurt.

As soon as I peeled back the plastic lid on the peach colored yogurt it looked different from American yogurt. This was a little runnier and it smelled really good. Not just like tart dairy the way American yogurt smells.
The flavour I picked out was apricot and it was the best yogurt I have ever had in my life. The rest of that trip I would be obsessed with eating yogurt; a food that honestly I had never really enjoyed before.
For the two weeks I stayed with my friends near Cambridge in the mornings I would open the fridge and have an apricot Muller’s yogurt. Or I would pull out the big carton of Onken yogurt with mixed berries and try not to eat the whole quart in one sitting. One of the great things about yogurt is that yogurts healthy bacteria can benefit digestive health. Did I also mention that it’s delicious?

When we went out into London to check out Trafalgar Square and stroll through Hyde Park on a cool afternoon, we would stop into Tesco Market for a snack and I would try a new flavour of Muller’s Yogurt. None was ever as good as the apricot though.
I came back to the states and there was no Muller’s Yogurt to be had. Greek yogurt was a new trend back in 2001 and I did enjoy the plain Fage Yogurts with the honey but it was never the same.
Every time I went into a fancy grocery store; Bristol Farm’s or Whole Food’s I would scan the yogurt shelves, craning my neck to see if maybe they would start carrying Muller’s.
    No one did.
I tried all the “European Style” Yogurt’s.
They just tasted like American yogurt, maybe a little creamier. Some had fancy flavours like fig but they were never as good as that creamy apricot Muller’s that I dreamt about.
My coworker has been telling me recently how great the Chobani yogurts are and she told me they make a lemon ginger one that is incredible. Hearing these words gave me hope so yesterday I went to Von’s thinking I would try the Chobani.
I walk into the dairy isle and my heart soared… Could it be… Muller’s Yogurt at last?
It was even the apricot flavour!
Well I have some bad news. This fairy tale does not have a happy ending. I just tried the American branded Muller’s which is produced by Quaker brand.
    It just tastes like yogurt.
    Nothing exciting at all.
I did not even finish it.
I guess my yogurt dreams will live on across the pond.
